Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Thursday ripped Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wy., as a "never Trumper" amid their Twitter spat on Paul's call for ending the Afghan war and for backing President Donald Trump's decision to fire John Bolton as national security adviser.

"They're part of this foreign-policy swamp that's been trying to undermine President Trump," Paul told Brianna Keilar on CNN, referring also to Cheney's father, former Vice President Dick Cheney.

"They hate President Trump's foreign policy," the senator said. "They want to stay in Afghanistan forever.

"They're apologizing for John Bolton. They love John Bolton."

Liz Cheney, 53, first elected in 2016, bashed Paul on Twitter on Wednesday, the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, after he tweeted, "Why do some neocons continue to advocate for endless wars?"

The post included a published op-ed that attacked Cheney for criticizing President Trump for wanting to stop "endless war."

"I stand with @realDonaldTrump and our men and women in uniform who will never surrender to terrorists," Cheney said in her first post, "unlike @RandPaul, who seems to have forgotten that today is 9/11."

The Twitter war spilled over into Thursday, with Paul countering how Trump "shredded your dad's failed foreign policy and endless wars" and including a report from a 2016 Republican candidates' debate in South Carolina.

Cheney then hit back with a pair of tweets, referencing the same debate and his failed presidential run, including: "Weird. I don't see you on stage here, @RandPaul. Oh, right. My bad — you had already lost."

In his CNN interview, Paul, 56, recalled how the Dick Cheney once attacked Vice President Mike Pence and was "going all in about the president's foreign policy.

"Just last year, Liz Cheney was criticizing President Trump for saying our [NATO] allies should pay more.

"So the main aspects of President Trump's 'America First' policy," Paul concluded, "the Cheneys are dead-set against it.

"They are never Trumpers — and they need to be honest with the people of Wyoming and honest with people of the country."
