Elizabeth Warren's star is rising.

Sen. Warren, D-Mass., is the frontrunner among Democratic presidential candidates ahead of the fourth national debate, leading former Vice President Joe Biden, 27-25%, in the latest Quinnipiac University national poll.

The survey marks the first time a candidate other than Biden holds a numerical lead in the primary since Quinnipiac started asking the question in March.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is third with 16% and South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg is fourth at 7%. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., rounds out the top five with 3%.

Additionally, Warren has pulled into the lead in California among voters likely to be participating in the state's March Democratic presidential primary, according to a poll conducted by the Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies.

Warren was the choice of 29% of likely voters, followed by Biden at 20%.

"The strength of Warren's candidacy is further demonstrated when voters are asked which candidates they are giving at least some consideration to supporting the Democratic primary," reads the release. "In this setting 68% of likely voters cite Warren, 23 points higher than any of her opponents. In addition, a 54% majority of likely voters lists Warren among their top two choices, 21 points greater than any of her Democratic rivals."
