Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., during an appearance Monday outside her Massachusetts home said she is "in this fight all the way," following her announcement she was running for president in 2020.
"America's middle class is getting hollowed out and opportunity for too many of our young people is shrinking," she told a group of reporters. "So, I'm in this fight all the way. Right now, Washington works great for the wealthy and the well-connected. It's just not working for anyone else. But I'm optimistic. I believe in what we can do together."
Warren earlier in the day sent a video to supporters announcing she is forming an exploratory committee – a first step for a 2020 run.
"Today, corruption is poisoning our democracy," Warren says in the video. "Politicians look the other way while insurance companies deny patients life-saving coverage, while big banks rip off consumers."
"The whole scam is propped up by an echo chamber of fear and hatred," she continues. "Designed to distract and divide us with people who will do or say anything to hang on to power, point the finger at anyone who looks, thinks, prays, loves differently than they do."
Warren, 69, won re-election in November. She told supporters she would more formally announce a campaign plan in early 2019.
She said Monday she was in the fight "because I understand what's happening to working families."
"I grew up in a paycheck-to-paycheck family and my big chance was a commuter college that cost $50 a semester," she said. "I run for office because I'm grateful down to my toes for the opportunities that were given to me, and I am determined that we will give those same opportunities, not just to some of our kids, but all of our kids. When we show what Democrats will get out there and make happen, that's how we win."
