New York City Mayor Eric Adams said it’s “clearly my belief” that the federal indictments brought against him by the Justice Department were a direct result of his complaints to the Biden administration over the illegal immigration crisis in his city.

Further, Adams said he believes there were Biden administration officials who didn’t think he was being a “good Democrat” for bringing those complaints over the course of 10 trips to the White House, which included at least two sitdowns with former President Joe Biden.

Adams made the comments in an interview with Tucker Carlson, published Tuesday night to X.

When asked what the response was from Biden administration officials regarding his concerns, Adams said, “Basically, be a good Democrat, Eric.”

“That was the basic overall theme. One of his aides told me, this is like a gallstone: It’ll pass,” Adams told Carlson. “It’ll hurt now, but it’ll pass.”

Adams is under indictment on five charges of bribery, corruption, wire fraud and soliciting and accepting donations from foreign nationals. Adams maintains that the indictments are punishment for complaining to the Biden administration.

“That is clearly my belief based on several aspects of it … that shows me I was targeted because of that,” he said.

Adams met with President Donald Trump last Friday at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, and attended his inauguration in Washington, D.C., on Monday.
