New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio does not stand with the city's police department and has been proven to be "anti-law enforcement," leading to growing attacks that included shootings of two Bronx officers over the weekend, President Donald Trump's son Eric said Monday.
"You have officers out on the street, having big buckets of water and other things thrown at them, and guess what leadership does?" Trump, the executive vice president of the Trump Organization told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "They do absolutely nothing."
Instead, he said, de Blasio "allows them to get beat up, he allows them to get assaulted, and he takes away their rights and every single time they arrest somebody because they are a bad guy, he ends up investigating them and throwing them in jail and calling them racist and calling them this and that,” Trump said. "It has got to stop."
Trump's comments come after a gunman, identified as Robert Williams, first walked into a police station in the Bronx and started shooting, wounding an officer just hours after he shot a different officer in a patrol van Saturday night."
Trump said former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal lawyer, "did a good job cleaning up the city," but de Blasio is widely unpopular with the city's police department, said Trump.
“Every time there is a funeral, the mayor shows up and guess what happens, every single officer turns around 180 and turns their back to the mayor of this city,” Trump said.“He’s been so anti-law enforcement and it shows he doesn’t stand with the men and women out there. He just doesn’t stand with the men and women out there — he just doesn’t."
