Facebook has removed a Trending Topics story its computer algorithm posted about a Sept. 11 conspiracy theory which claimed the World Trade Center was destroyed in a "controlled demolition,"according to The Hill.

The story, headlined "September 11: The footage that 'proves bombs were planted in Twin Towers" was posted by tabloid The Daily Star. It quoted unnamed engineers supporting the radical conspiracy theory.

Facebook controversially went to an algorithm over employing human editors for its Trending Topics a month ago, and this story’s appearance before the weekend of the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks raised eyebrows on social media.
