Russia special counsel Robert Mueller has subpoenaed Paul Manafort's former lawyer and his current spokesman, according to news reports Tuesday.

Melissa Laurenza, an attorney with the Akin Gump law firm in Washington who represented Manafort until recently, and Jason Maloni were subpoenaed, CNN reported.

The cable network cited "people familiar with the matter."

Manafort, a former campaign manager for President Donald Trump, is under investigation for possible violations relating to his consultant work for Ukraine's former ruling party.

He has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

However, "it's unclear what specific information the Mueller investigators believe Laurenza and Maloni may have," CNN reported.

Manafort is now represented by Kevin Downing, a Washington lawyer and former Justice Department prosecutor who specializes in tax issues, according to CNN.

Maloni declined to comment, as did a Mueller spokesman.

Laurenza referred questions to a spokesman who did not immediately comment, CNN reported.

FBI investigators raided Manafort's home in Virginia on July 26 before dawn with a subpoena, seizing documents and other materials in Mueller's investigation, The Washington Post reported.
