The biopic "First Moon" chronicles astronaut Neil Armstrong's life from 1961 to 1969, but it doesn't include the moment many remember most — when he and fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin planted the U.S. flag on the moon.
Canadian actor Ryan Gosling, who plans Armstrong in the movie, told The Telegraph that the flag scene was omitted from the movie because the historic events that ended with humans walking on the moon "transcended countries and borders."
"I also think Neil was extremely humble, as were many of these astronauts, and time and time again he deferred the focus from himself to the 400,000 people who made the mission possible," said Gosling.
He also claimed that from his own interviews with Armstrong's family and people who knew him,
"I don't think that Neil viewed himself as an American hero," said Gosling. "It was quite the opposite. We wanted the film to reflect Neil."
He further joked that he might have "cognitive bias" against including the flag, as he's from Canada.
The movie premiered at the Venice Film Festival Wednesday, and is scheduled to show up in theaters in October.
