Fla. Man Gets 5 Years for Jan. 6 Assault on Officers

Kenneth Bonawitz, a 58-year-old Florida man and member of the Proud Boys, was sentenced to five years in prison for assaulting a law enforcement officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Bonawitz, according to the Department of Justice, "assaulted at least six law enforcement officers on the West Plaza" on Jan. 6, 2021. His actions "included hurling himself at officers and tackling them to the ground, placing one officer in a chokehold, and lifting the officer up by the neck."

Bonawitz man pleaded guilty to multiple felonies including civil disorder and obstruction of an official proceeding. He also faces 36 months of supervised release and a $2,000 fine.
