Michael Flynn, the former national security adviser for President Donald Trump, did not properly disclose payments from Russia and there is no evidence he complied with the law, two members of the House Oversight Committee said.
The announcement by Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, the committee chairman and ranking Democrat Elijah Cummings of Maryland, came after the panel reviewed Flynn's application for security clearance, CNN reported.
Cummings said the committee had looked at documents which he described as "extremely troubling."
"I see no data to support the notion that Gen. Flynn complied with the law," Chaffetz said.
CNN said his comments referred to whether Flynn received permission from the Pentagon or the State Department or that he disclosed the more than $45,000 he was paid for a speech he gave to RT-TV in Russia.
"As a former military officer, you simply cannot take money from Russia, Turkey or anybody else. It appears as if he did take that money. It was inappropriate and there are repercussions for the violation of law"
Meanwhile, the White House has refused to turn over documents to the committee relating to the hiring and firing of Flynn, The New York Times reported.
White House Director of Legislative Affairs Marc Short said the White House would not complete the request from the committee, CNN said. He maintained his office doesn't have custody of some documents and is unable to accommodate other requests.
Flynn was ousted as Trump's national security adviser after it was learned he withheld information about talks he had with Russian ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak, CNN said.
