The Rev. Franklin Graham declared Wednesday that "our politicians and America's broken political system desperately need prayer" and announced Facebook Live prayers just before both political parties hold their national conventions later this month.
"Sadly, corruption is almost synonymous with politics these days," he said in a post. "Our justice system seems to prosecute the wrong people, sometimes giving a pass to the obviously guilty."
Graham, 63, is the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and the Samaritan's Purse global charity.
He then quoted God's warning in Isaiah 1:4 from the Old Testament:
"Woe to the sinful nation, a people whose guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him."
"Turning our back on God as a nation won't always go unpunished," Graham cautioned.
The Facebook prayers will be held just before the start of the Republican National Convention on July 18 and the Democratic National Convention on July 25, he said.
"Share this," Graham urged. "We need the whole nation praying."
