The gun control group founded by former Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has raised more than $1.2 million in the week since a deadly mass shooting at a South Florida high school, The Daily Beast reported.
An official with the group, "Giffords," told the outlet that as of Thursday morning, money came from more than 43,000 donors, with the average donation around $27.
More than 450,000 people have also signed the group's "vote courage" pledge, which encourages electoral activism around the issue of gun control, the Daily Beast reported.
The group has already announced this week it was financing a six-figure ad buy targeting Florida GOP Gov. Rick Scott's record on gun safety issues, the news outlet reported.
Giffords, who was critically injured in a mass shooting in 2011, has become a leading advocate for tighter firearms restrictions.
