Sixty percent of voters are using the midterm elections to send a message about President Donald Trump, a new Gallup poll reveals.
Here is how it breaks down:
- 34 percent say they are indicating their opposition to Trump with their vote
- 26 percent say they are signaling their support for him with their vote
- 62 percent of Democrats are voting to show opposition to Trump
- 53 percent of Republicans are voting to show support for him
By comparison, 30 percent of voters polled before 2010 midterms, said they were signaling their opposition to President Barack Obama, while 22 percent were indicating their support for him.
In the 2010 midterms, the Democrats lost 63 seats and majority control in the House, Gallup noted.
“That could portend a tough night for Trump's party, especially since the structural conditions of the two elections are similar, with a first-term president enjoying majority control of both chambers of Congress but voters largely unhappy with how the president is performing,” Gallup said in its report accompanying its findings.
The poll, conducted Oct. 15-28, surveyed 1,011 adults. The margin for error is 4 percentage points.
