Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she looks forward to a time when politics can become less polarizing.
"My hope in my lifetime we will get back to the way it was," Ginsburg said.
Her comments were reported by The Wall Street Journal after she viewed a play called "The Originalist," named of the late Justice Antonin Scalia's method of interpreting the Constitution.
"I love this play and the idea behind it that people with very different views on important things can genuinely like each other," she said during a question-and-answer session after the show.
Ginsburg, 84, said she and Scalia could agree on certain issues even if they often opposed each other on constitutional cases.
She remained optimistic about the U.S. "over the long haul." Ginsburg noted when the pendulum of U.S. politics swings too far in one direction, "you can look forward to it moving back."
During the presidential campaign, she had called Trump "a faker," CNN noted.
She later called her comments "ill-advised" and said she regretted making them.
