The Trump administration predicted the average temperature across the globe will rise by more than 6 degrees by the end of the 21st century in a recent draft of an environmental impact statement.
The Washington Post reported on the lengthy document, which was dated July 2018 and was posted on the website for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Included in a chart that outlines the potential impacts of continuing the status quo regarding the use of fossil fuels is a section that claims the Earth will warm by an average of roughly 6.3 degrees Fahrenheit. The chart also predicts that sea levels will rise by about 30 inches by 2100.
"The amazing thing they're saying is human activities are going to lead to this rise of carbon dioxide that is disastrous for the environment and society. And then they're saying they're not going to do anything about it," Michael MacCracken, who formerly worked at the U.S. Global Change Research Program from 1993-2002, told the Post.
The Trump administration has rolled back many Obama-era restrictions and rules when it comes to the environment, including methane emissions from oil and gas operations on public lands.
