Former Vice President Joe Biden Monday insisted that nobody has found "anything wrong" with his son Hunter's position on the board of Ukraine gas company Burisma and snapped at NBC "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie when she asked him if it was "wrong" for his son to take the million-dollar job.
"It's a good thing that no one's found anything wrong with his dealing with Ukraine, except it sets a bad image," Biden told Guthrie, pointing out that his son also has agreed that the job choice didn't look good.
But when Guthrie asked Biden if it was wrong for his son to accept the job "knowing that it was really because that company wanted access to you, he snapped back.
"That's not true," Biden told her. "You're saying things you do not know what you're talking about. No one has said that. Who said that?"
She pressed, asking Biden if he thought that his son's job was "one of those things that people think, that seems kind of sleazy? Why would he have that job if not for who his father was?"
"He's a very bright guy," Biden said of his son. "He says he regretted having done it. He speaks for himself. He's a grown man."
During his impeachment hearing, Trump supporters in the Senate said that if witnesses were to be called, they wanted to hear from the younger Biden about his work with Burisma. The president alos has said his actions with Ukraine were in connection with concerns about corruption on many levels, including with the Bidens.
Meanwhile, Biden said the Trump impeachment and its outcome hasn't "shaken my faith" when it comes to working with "at least" Republicans. "I think you're going to see the world change with Trump gone," Biden said, adding that he can work with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, but he hopes Democrats will take over the chamber, putting McConnell out.
Biden also said Monday his candidacy is "moving on from what we started" during former President Barack Obama's presidency.
"One of the reasons I'm running is because of my experience," he said. "Who's going to be ready on day one? To pick up the phone and call any world leader and they know who he is and he knows who they are."
