The mother of the Sean Smith, a U.S. information management officer who died in the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi, said she was mistreated by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as she tried to get answers about her son's death.

"I was treated like dirt. I don't think the Khan family was treated that way. But I was treated like dirt, I was called a liar," Patricia Smith told CNN's Brooke Baldwin on Monday.

Smith was referring to the Muslim family whose son was killed in the line of duty — and who have been engaged in a war of words with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump

Clinton, Smith said, "went on TV many times and nodding her head, thinking that she's so wonderful and she knows everything and I know nothing… I don't like her decisions, she kills people!"

She added that while nobody should attack the heartbroken families of loved ones killed on the battlefield, she does not believe Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump should apologize to the Khans.

"That's what he believes," she said.

The Trump-Kahn controversy began last week when Khizr Khan, the father of Capt. Humayun Khan, addressed the Democratic National Convention and criticized the billionaire real-estate tycoon for his proposed Muslim ban. Khan also charged that Trump had "sacrificed nothing and no one."

Trump fired back saying he had created "thousands and thousands of jobs" and intimated that Khan's wife, who stood behind her husband, was not allowed to speak.
