Philadelphia authorities are investigating the suspicious death of the father of former White House National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster at the retirement community where the elderly man lived, an ABC affiliate reported Wednesday night.
According to the affiliate, WPVI, the Philadelphia department of health determined H.R. McMaster Sr. died April 13 of blunt force trauma to the head. He was 84.
Health officials have ruled his death to be an accident, but the news outlet reported investigators have labeled the death suspicious — and are looking into whether there could have been institutional neglect in treating him.
According to the ABC affiliate, there are allegations the elderly man fell, hit his head, was put in a chair and then died — and did not receive the proper care.
Investigators are also looking into information from staff members that records were falsified pertaining to this death.
A search warrant was executed Tuesday at the facility, Cathedral Village.
The retirement community told the ABC affiliate it contacted the Department of Health the same day of McMaster's death and is conducting its own investigation into allegations about the circumstances.
H.R. McMaster left the administration earlier this month, when he was replaced by former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton following reports President Donald Trump and his adviser disagreed on policy issues.
