Just 36 percent of Americans have a positive view of President Barack Obama's handling of issues related to immigration, according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey.

While his approval rating has increased five points since last month, 48 percent continue to say Obama is not doing a good job handling immigration issues.

Voters hold more negative views of the plan itself, according to a November Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. Among likely voters, 40 percent approve of his proposal to grant temporary amnesty to nearly 5 million illegal immigrants, but 50 percent oppose it.

In addition, 43 percent of voters say that Congress should identify steps to prevent the president from permitting illegal immigrants to remain in the country and to apply for jobs, according to a Rasmussen survey released on Monday.

The findings of the Rasmussen surveys are in line with a recent CNN/ORC poll that showed 56 percent of Americans oppose Obama's executive action to delay deportations, compared with 41 percent who expressed support for his unilateral action.

There was greater support for the fundamentals of the president's immigration plan in the CNN poll, with 50 percent saying it was about right.

The CNN poll was conducted Nov. 21-23.
