President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday morning that Democrats should concentrate on trying to pass needed legislation for the nation's citizens, because the impeachment process has become very unpopular.

“Support for Impeachment is dropping like a rock, down into the 20’s in some Polls,” Trump said in the tweet. “Dems should now get down to work and finally approve USMCA, and much more!”

Although the numbers might not be as dramatic as the president indicates, The Hill reported that  surveys on impeachment are indeed moving against Democrats, with independents in particular souring on the process and voicing more opposition to the hearings.

Democrats are increasing worried that they are losing the public’s patience on the issue and that it might hurt them significantly in the next election.

For example, the FiveThirtyEight average of national polls states that backing for impeachment has declined from 50.3 percent in mid-October to 46.3 percent currently, while opposition has increased from 43.8 percent to 45.6 percent.

Independents have registered an even more pronounced decrease in support for impeachment, according to the FiveThirtyEight average, from a height of 47.7 percent in late October to 41 percent in the latest polls.
