President Joe Biden on Friday joked about getting impeached while touting falling inflation and "Bidenomics" and plugging American manufacturing.

"While there's more work ahead, earlier this week The Washington Post suggested Republicans may have to find something else to criticize me for now that inflation is coming down," Biden said Friday during a speech in Maine at Auburn Manufacturing Inc., a company that produces heat and fire resistant fabrics.

"Maybe they'll decide to impeach me because it's coming down. I don't know. I love that one. Anyway, that's another story."

Inflation has dipped by 9.1% since June 2022 to 3% this month. The figure was just 1.4% when he took office.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy earlier this week said Republican lawmakers may consider an impeachment inquiry against Biden on claims of financial misconduct by the Biden family.

An impeachment inquiry by the House would be a first step toward bringing articles of impeachment. Such a probe could be as lengthy or swift as the House determines, potentially stretching into campaign season.

"We will follow this to the end," McCarthy said, first floating the idea Monday on Fox News.

Biden on Friday said he wasn't there to "declare victory on the economy. ... We have more work to do. We have a plan for turning things around. Bidenomics is just another way of saying, 'Restoring the American dream.'"
