Former Vice President Dick Cheney will be in Washington Tuesday to meet with Republican lawmakers regarding the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

The Washington Post reports that Cheney, who served under George W. Bush, will speak at the GOP weekly conference meeting. It will take place at the Republican National Committee headquarters on Capitol Hill.

Cheney, who has remained a staunch supporter of the United States' military involvement in Iraq, has given several warnings about the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group in recent months. President Barack Obama is scheduled to meet with lawmakers on Tuesday before he addresses the nation Wednesday.

The Post report claims Cheney's appearance was initially supposed to focus more on politics with the November midterm elections approaching, but the situation with the Islamic State has changed the topic of discussion.

After American journalist James Foley was beheaded by ISIS militants last month, Cheney said the terror group is capable of far worse.

"That's obviously a terrible development," Cheney said of Foley's killing, "but magnify that a million times over, because that's what's in store for the rest of the world if we don't deal effectively with this crisis."

Cheney has also accused Obama of not taking the Islamic State seriously. Before the group began taking over cities in Iraq, Obama said ISIS was part of the "JV" squad.

Results of a CNN/ORC poll released Monday show that 76 percent of Americans support additional airstrikes against ISIS targets, while 7 in 10 Americans think the terror group has the capabilities to attack the United States.
