President Donald Trump on Friday knocked the “disastrous” report on former FBI Director James Comey in which a watchdog office found that Comey violated bureau policies.

“The disastrous IG Report on James Comey shows, in the strongest of terms, how unfairly I, and tens of millions of great people who support me, were treated,” Trump tweeted Friday morning. “Our rights and liberties were illegally stripped away by this dishonest fool. We should be given our stolen time back?”

According to the Justice Department’s inspector general, Comey broke FBI rules by providing a memo with unclassified information with a friend who was instructed to pass it along to a reporter. He also kept his memos after his dismissal, keeping copies of some in a safe at his house and sharing some with his personal attorneys without the FBI’s permission.

“By not safeguarding sensitive information obtained during the course of his FBI employment, and by using it to create public pressure for official action, Comey set a dangerous example for the over 35,000 current FBI employees — and the many thousands more former FBI employees — who similarly have access to or knowledge of non-public information,” the report states.

Comey tweeted on Thursday: “DOJ IG ‘found no evidence that Comey or his attorneys released any of the classified information contained in any of the memos to members of the media.’ I don’t need a public apology from those who defamed me, but a quick message with a ‘sorry we lied about you’ would be nice.”
