An aide to President Donald Trump accidentally revealed the private cell phone number of Defense Secretary James Mattis, The Hill reported.
Keith Schiller was photographed on the White House grounds holding a stack of papers with a sticky note on top that said "Jim, Mad Dog, Mattis." The photo was printed by The Washington Post accompanying a story of how Schiller was picked by Trump to deliver the termination letter to then-FBI Director James Comey last week.
A reader noticed the photo and called the Post. A Post reporter called the number and got Mattis' voicemail. The Post replaced the photo with another image.
Schiller is a former bodyguard of Trump's who has long been critical of Comey, according to the Post. He has also served as a liaison between Trump and many law enforcement officers and has been in the spotlight several times, including when he punched a protestor outside of Trump Tower and forcibly removed a journalist from a news conference.
Trump hired Schiller as his Oval Office director in January.
