Jared Kushner, former President Donald Trump's son-in-law and one of his closest advisers during his presidency, is scheduled to appear virtually before the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack this week, ABC News reports.
Kushner's testimony could come as early as Thursday, but could also be postponed, ABC reported.
The election challenge was not part of Kushner's duties, and on Jan. 6, 2020, he was on a plane to Washington from Saudi Arabia where had just wrapped up negotiations on a rift in the Persian Gulf. He did not go to the White House when his plane landed.
ABC's Jonathan Karl reported in his book "Betrayal" that Kushner purposely avoided the White House because he thought he would get into a "fight" with the president.
Ivanka Trump, the president's daughter and Kushner's wife, was at the White House and repeatedly tried to get him to urge the rioters to stop, according to Karl's book. The committee is negotiating with her about whether she will testify.
Ivanka Trump also served in an official capacity as a top aide in the Trump administration.
