Rep. Chaffetz: It Only Takes a Couple of Terrorists Mixed In Among Refugees to Cause Chaos

Saying he is "deeply troubled" by the inability of the United States to properly vet the tens of thousands of Middle East refugees expected to be brought into the country, Rep. Jason Chaffetz on Tuesday warned of the problems America could face if terrorists embed themselves with those fleeing them.

"Let's remember that those people crossing in the Mediterranean, only 54 percent of them are from Syria, which begs the question where are these other 46 percent of the people coming from?" the Utah Republican said on Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

Seventy percent are males, he noted, and the Islamic State (ISIS) has openly advocated hiding its own members among the refugees.

"It's a real problem," said Chaffetz, Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's efforts in the region not only didn't work, but made matters worse, Chaffetz said.

"That investment, the use of our troops, the use of our money, the use of our aid, it did not produce the results," he said. "Now they are fleeing the biggest mass migration since World War II."

America already is doing more than its fair share, he argued.

"But how do you vet these people, and it only takes but a couple to cause pandemonium here in this country," he said.
