Jenna Bush Hager said her grandmother, former first lady Barbara Bush, is in great spirits and continuing to fight.
Hager made her comments on NBC's "Today" show where she serves as a correspondent. Hager is the daughter of former President George W. Bush.
Her remarks came after the announcement that the former first lady is in "failing health" and won't seek additional medical treatment.
"We are grateful for her," Hager said of her grandmother.
Hager said she and her twin sister Barbara talked with the former first lady Sunday.
"Barbara and I talked to her last night, she's in great spirits and she's a fighter, she's an enforcer," Hager said. "She reminded me not to believe everything you read. We're grateful for her, for everybody's prayers and thoughts and just know the world is better because she's in it.
"She's with my grandpa, the man she's loved for over 73 years. They are surrounded by family, but I think the fact that they're together in this and he still says, 'I love you Barbie,' every night is pretty remarkable."
