Former Trump campaign adviser Roger Stone arranged for conservative author Jerome Corsi to receive $15,000 a month to work as the Washington, D.C. bureau chief for Infowars, a set up that has been the focus of special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, according to a report in The Washington Post.
Both Corsi and Stone are being scrutinized by Mueller's team.
Corsi, who is working with Mueller's team as a witness, is a key part of the probe into whether there was a connection between WikiLeaks and Trump's inner circle during the campaign. WikiLeaks hacked emails from Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta and published them in October 2016. Stone in August 2016 tweeted it would "soon be Podesta's time in the barrel."
Corsi has denied having contacts with WikiLeaks.
But after leaving his post at Infowars last June, Corsi continued to be paid by the site. He has denied suggestions the money was a hush payment.
"It's really pretty far-fetched," Corsi told the Post. "I'm the guy who has talked the most. I haven't been hushed by anything."
In an Infowars column published Jan. 18, conspiracist Alex Jones wrote "hiring Corsi had nothing whatsoever to do with WikiLeaks or any kind of 'hush money' operation, which is an absurd claim."
