Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones drew a definitive line in the sand on Sunday saying if there was any "disrespecting the flag," then they wouldn't play, the SportsDay reported Sunday.
"If there is anything disrespecting the flag, then we will not play. Period. We're going to respect the flag," Jones said following the Cowboys' loss to the Green Bay Packers. "We cannot in the NFL, in any way, give the implication that we tolerate disrespecting the flag. We cannot do that."
Jones did participate along with players in kneeling before the anthem was played in their game against the Arizona Cardinals on September 25, but said if it came to a decision between supporting each other or the flag, his team would not "disrespect the flag."
Each player on the Cowboys team stood for the national anthem prior to Sunday's game, though defensive linemen David Irving and Damontre Moore raised their fist at the anthem's conclusion.
Jones said he didn't "know about that," when quizzed about Irving and Moore, but maintained emphatically the team would show respect.
"We as a team are very much on the page together. We've made our expression that we're together. I'm very supportive of the team but under no circumstances — under no circumstances — will the Dallas Cowboys, I don't care what happens, under no circumstances as an organization or as coaches and players, not support and stand and recognize and honor the flag. Period."
