Rep. Jim Jordan: Freedom Caucus Speaking to Ryan Before Making Decision

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Jim Jordan thinks Rep. Paul Ryan is "a great messenger for our party," but the conservative group will be speaking with him today to ask him questions and iron out concerns before it makes the decision to back his campaign to become speaker of the House.

"He made some statements in his presentation I thought were good; he made statements I think we need to have discussion about," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends. "I believe he believes deep down with the principles I do, and we'll have the discussion."

Currently, the Freedom Caucus is backing Florida Rep. Daniel Webster for the spot. Jordan said his caucus all likes Ryan, but will not back him if he does not back the changes the group wants.

And to get the vote of Jordan and his caucus, Ryan will need to promise that when House Republicans make a stand on a position, they "make the Senate do something."

But he believes a speaker will be picked next week, when the election is scheduled.

"This is how this place is supposed to work," said Jordan. "You have real debate. You decide, you work things out. Sometimes it gets a little messy. That is the way the founders intended it."

Jordan will also be part of the Benghazi committee hearing on Thursday, where former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will give her long-awaited testimony on the events surrounding the 2012 attacks on the Libyan compound that left Ambassador Chris Stevens and three embassy staff dead.

He criticized Clinton and Democrats in the State Department for the delays in getting information to the committee.

"If the Democrats in the State Department would spend as much time trying to get us records, the emails, the information from Chris Stevens and other people, give us documents we're frankly entitled to, if they spend as much time on that as they have on all political narrative they keep bringing out, maybe we could get to the truth and actually get answers to [the] American people and [the] families of four individuals who gave their life for their country," said Jordan.
