President Donald Trump will not pardon former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio at a campaign rally Tuesday in Arizona, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said.

"There will be no discussion of that today at any point and no action will be taken on that front at any point today," Sanders told reporters aboard Air Force One, The Hill reports.

Arpaio, 85, the tough-talking former sheriff, was convicted of criminal contempt by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton earlier this month for "willfully violating an order of the court" to end his crackdown on illegal immigrants.

President Trump said afterward that he might consider pardoning Arpaio, a longtime supporter.
