Vice President Joe Biden said Monday that Loretta Lynch, the country's new attorney general, is "cut from the same exact cloth" as Eric Holder.
Biden made the comments during Lynch's
swearing-in ceremony Monday at the Justice Department's Washington, D.C., office. Lynch replaces Holder, who turned in his resignation last fall effective when a new AG would be named.
"I have absolute confidence that Loretta Lynch will exceed the high standard set for her, because she's cut from the exact same cloth," Biden said. "Both she and Eric embody the mantra of one of their predecessors, the man after whom this building is named, who said, 'the purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better.'
"For 30 years, she's been a first rate, fair-minded, independent lawyer and prosecutor as a U.S. attorney and in private practice," Biden continued. "She's shown the resolve to prosecute and jail terrorists, mobsters and gang members. She's shown fidelity to the law, and rooted out public corruption.
"She's shown determination to bring down financial fraudsters and child abusers, and she's shown a dogged pursuit to bust the brutal human trafficking rings that she has encountered. She's shown an unyielding commitment to the rule of law and basic human rights."

Biden's comments are sure to rile Republicans, many of whom did not support President Barack Obama's nomination of Lynch to the office because they claimed she might not deviate from the policies set by Holder — with whom the GOP routinely clashed.
Lynch
had very little support among Republicans, but
she was confirmed in a Senate vote last week, 56-43.
The 55-year-old Lynch served as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York from 1999-2001, and again from 2010 until she was installed as the nation's attorney general.
