Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., said on Wednesday that President Donald Trump's controversial proposal for the U.S. to take control of the Gaza Strip is "part of the conversation" and should be considered, noting that he would "fully support" sending American forces to the region.

Trump said during a press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday that the U.S. would take control of the Gaza Strip and possibly deploy troops to organize its redevelopment, an announcement that was met with mixed responses from senators.

Most Democrats announced their immediate opposition to the proposal, with some Republicans expressing reservations, but Fetterman, in an interview with Jewish Insider, said, "I don't know what the role [U.S. troops would play], but they're obviously a part of it, and I fully support."

He added, "It's a provocative part of the conversation, but it's part of the conversation, and that's where we are."

Fetterman continued: "The Palestinians have refused, or they've been unwilling, to deliver a government that provided security and economic development for themselves. They allowed 10/7 to occur, and now Gaza has to be rebuilt. Where are the people going to live? Where are they going to go? So it's part of a conversation with where they're at right now."
