A prominent Republican critic of President Donald Trump finds himself more than 15 points down to his GOP challenger in a hypothetical 2020 matchup.
The results of the Practical Political Consultants poll, as reported by MIRS, show that Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., has 33% support in a primary battle with State Rep. James Lower — who garnered 49% support in the poll.
Amash has openly criticized Trump in recent weeks. He made headlines last month by saying Trump engaged in "impeachable conduct" during the nearly two-year Russia investigation, echoing what some Democrats have said in regards to possible obstruction of justice charges against Trump. He also blasted Attorney General William Barr over his handling of the Mueller report.
The White House has since signaled that Trump could back Lower in his bid to earn the GOP spot on the ballot in Michigan's 3rd District election next year.
