Florida's former Secretary of State Katherine Harris, the woman who helped George W, Bush win the 2000 presidential election, is reportedly getting married to a Texas millionaire more than three years after her first husband committed suicide.
According to Gossip Extra, the 59-year-old Harris will wed Texas banker Richard Ware, 70, in the coming days.
"I never expected this would happen," Harris told the website. "You know, I'd become a near recluse. I'm very blessed."
Gossip Extra reports that a marriage license was recently issued for the couple in Amarillo, Texas, which lies in Potter County. A source told the outlet the wedding is slated for this Saturday. Harris would not confirm that timeline, although she hinted that the ceremony will happen soon.
"Just let me make it down the aisle, then call me back in a couple of weeks," she said.
The 2000 presidential election between Bush and Al Gore came down to Florida, with Bush winning by a little more than 500 votes. Multiple recounts were ordered but none were conclusive, so Harris made the decision to call the election in Bush's favor.
After her time as secretary of state in Florida (1999-2002), Harris served in the House from 2003-2007. Her first husband committed suicide at their Sarasota, Fla. home in 2013.
