New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio campaigned on an anti-police agenda and as he hasn't changed his stance, he should be voted out, former New York City Police Commissioner Bernie Kerik said Monday in the wake of attacks on two police officers in the Bronx in a 12-hour span over the weekend.
"You need leadership at times like this that's going to be out there to really support the cops, truly support the cops," Kerik, appearing on Fox News' "Fox and Friends" with NYPD Sgt. Joe Imperatrice and Dr. Darrin Porcher, a former NYPD detective and U.S. Army doctor, commented. "The bottom line is, this kind of stuff would have never ever happened under Rudy Giuliani. It just wouldn't have happened. Shouldn't be happening under this mayor, and it's not going to stop until there is a new mayor in New York City."
De Blasio is an "anti-cop mayor," Kerik added, who campaigned on "how he historically had told his son from the time he was a child to beware of the cops, you are in danger from the police" and hasn't changed.
"I think the people in New York see it. It's a mayor that emboldened the bad guys and villainizes the police," said Kerik.
Imperatrice said the weekend attacks happened "because of the pro-criminal and anti-police sentiment that a lot of politicians have come up with. We see all these protests around the city. It's not just protests, it's people screaming and chanting for cops to be killed and injured and people out there that are deranged that take it to heart."
Porcher said the police are the city's first line of defense, but de Blasio has shown he is against the department, including the decision not to indict NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo in the chokehold death of Eric Garner.
"Police officers are here to protect us as citizens, and if we don't have police officers, then we will have something we refer to as 'The Purge,' the movie we saw in Hollywood as a result," said Porcher.
