President Donald Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump, a senior adviser for his 2020 campaign, said Friday she thinks his former attorney, Michael Cohen, is a "very desperate man" who can't be believed.
Her comments to Fox News' "America's Newsroom" were in response to BuzzFeed News, which cited two unnamed law enforcement officials while reporting the president had directed Cohen to lie to Congress negotiations over a real estate project in Moscow during the 2016 election and that Cohen regularly briefed Trump on the matter.
"I think he holds no water whatsoever," Trump said. "We’ve seen that he has perjured himself in the past. It’s ridiculous. It’s all made up. And I always say that the truth will come out with these things. And I think you will see the truth come out. And I think sadly Michael Cohen is a fraud, and he is trying to get his last couple minutes of fame.”
Cohen last year pleaded guilty to lying to Congress and to other federal crimes, and has been sentenced to three years in prison.
BuzzFeed, however, said their source for the story was not Cohen, but instead "two federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation of the matter."
Earlier on Friday, Anthony Cormier, one of the investigative reporters who wrote the article admitted to CNN he had not had not seen the evidence that was used in his story, but co-author Jason Leopold MSNBC that he he had both seen the documents and had been briefed about them, reports Mediaite.
