Conservative radio host and commentator Laura Ingraham is reportedly on a very short list of replacements for beleaguered White House press secretary Sean Spicer.
Politico reported Spicer is leading the search for his successor as part of a larger plan to shake up the White House communications operations.
Along with Ingraham, Spicer last week spoke with Daily Mail editor David Martosko, Politico reported.
According to Fox News, Spicer will no longer handle day-to-day press duties, including daily media briefings, and instead, will oversee communications for the entire administration.
The bump up the ladder would give Spicer authority to manage the press office, as well as other branches of the communications department, Fox News reported.
A statement from Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the shakeup, Bloomberg News reported.
"We have sought input from many people as we look to expand our communications operation," Sanders said. "As he did in the beginning, Sean Spicer is managing both the communications and press office."
Spicer's stint at the briefing podium inspired a withering parody by "Saturday Night Live," with actress Melissa McCarthy delivering a gender-bending portrayal of the press secretary as a belligerent buffoon.
Speculation about his job security has swirled for weeks, peaking after President Donald Trump's May 9 firing of FBI Director James Comey.
