Members of President Donald Trump's legal team met with members of special counsel Robert Mueller's team last week to discuss a future interview with the president as part of the Russia probe.
CNN reported Monday evening the two sides had their first face-to-face meeting and an official agreement about a Trump interview could be reached over the next few weeks.
Last week's meeting included a request from Mueller's team Trump answers detailed questions about last year's firing of FBI director James Comey. Another topic that would be discussed, according to CNN, would be what Trump knows regarding Michael Flynn's conversations with the Russian ambassador in December 2016.
One source told CNN that Trump was once eager to answer questions from Mueller's team, but as it became clear in recent months the investigation will likely last well into this year, he backed away from that eagerness.
The Washington Post report earlier Monday, meanwhile, claimed Trump's legal team has been providing Mueller's investigators with documents in an effort to help control the topics of a Trump-Mueller interview.
Mueller's team was formed last May and is probing whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. The investigation, however, might be switching over to an obstruction of justice probe.
