Indie actor and producer Mark Duplass apologized to fans Thursday — stung by the blowback he got for praising conservative Ben Shapiro and encouraging "fellow liberals" to follow him on Twitter.

In a now-deleted tweet, the "Zero Dark Thirty" actor exhorted: "Fellow liberals: If you are interested at all in 'crossing the aisle' you should consider following Ben Shapiro," The Daily Signal reported.

He added Shapiro had once helped him for "no other reason than to be nice" and his "intentions are good."

The attempt at bipartisan goodwill fell flat.

Duplass was repentant Thursday, calling his Wednesday post a "disaster on many levels."

Shapiro, who is editor-in-chief of The Daily Wire, was furious, mocking how quickly Duplass flipped, asserting: "Twitter toxifies any attempt to cross the aisle."

And a whole new battalion of critics stepped forward to condemn Duplass for being shamed into deleting his pro-Shapiro post.

Fox News' Brit Hume called Duplass' tweet-and-retreat "truly depressing."

Conservative podcaster Steven Crowder also pounded Duplass.

New York Times columnist Bari Weiss also weighed in.
