Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday he's calling on Attorney General William Barr to declassify as much as possible from his investigation into FISA warrants obtained by FBI agents who surveiled members of President Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.
"I want the public to see the process in real time," the South Carolina Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom," while explaining why he wrote a letter to Barr about the investigation. "I want the warrant applications to be revealed to the public as much as possible."
The Justice Department inspector general's report regarding former FBI Director James Comey revealed that he manipulated the system regarding government memos in order to get a special counsel appointed to investigate Trump, said Graham.
"The question for me is, did they manipulate the warrant system to get a warrant against Carter Page?" said Graham. "Did they manipulate the counterintelligence investigation against (George) Papadopoulos? Did they manipulate the outcome of the (Hillary) Clinton investigation because they wanted her to win and Trump to lose?"
Graham said he is looking to see if there was a pattern of manipulation and bias involved and if that pattern rises "to the level of criminality. We will soon hear from the inspector general about the warrant application."
He added that Inspector General Michael Horowitz is a "pretty neutral guy" who was appointed by former President Barack Obama but still "slammed Comey" for ignoring rules to launch an investigation on Trump.
Graham said he hasn't had a response to his letter to Barr, but he hopes that the "whole story" will be told, as "accountability and transparency is my goal."
