Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, on Monday called former special counsel Robert Mueller an "anal opening" as Mueller prepares to testify on his investigation before Congress.

"He's done some irreparable damage to some things and he's got to answer for them," Gohmert, 65, told Politico, adding the former special counsel's report "reinforced the anal opening that I believe Mueller to be."

The congressman, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, is one of 25 Republicans who will question Mueller when he testifies later in July.

Former Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty, who served in the Justice Department during Mueller's time as FBI Director, told Politico that Mueller will not do more than explain what he already detailed in his report.

"Bob will stick with Marine-like discipline to his battle plan of staying within the four corners of his report," McNulty said. "Members will say much more with their statements than he will say with his answers."

"I think Mueller will be extremely prepared," added Sam Sokol, a former counsel to Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee. "He'll present factually compelling — and my guess would be an emotionally powerful — defense of the good faith and patriotism of his team."
