HUD regional administrator Lynne Patton Thursday rejected the idea that Rep. Mark Meadows used her as a "prop" to defend President Donald Trump against accusations of racism from his former attorney, Michael Cohen during Wednesday's House Oversight Committee hearing, and said she was there to "push back against a liar."
"I was not there to represent an entire race of people," Patton told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "The president does not see color, race, creed, religion. What he sees are success and failure."
After Meadows presented Batton to the committee, Rep. Rashida Talib, D-Mich., accused him of using her as a "prop."
Patton also accused Cohen of perjuring himself when he denied wanting a White House post.
"He told me personally that he wanted to work at the White House and what I saw when he was iced out from going to Washington was the fast deterioration of a man who, once had so much confidence and swagger," said Patton. "He literally crumbled right before my eyes over the next year or so, becoming so desperate and delusional for the sort of acknowledgment of our president, that it became borderline pathetic."
Further, Patton said there is "no amount of money in the world" that would get her to work for a racist.
"I could be out there writing a seven-figure book right now," she said. "I could be working at a place pays a lot more than the federal government because I work here because I know this man is making a difference. I know this family is making a difference. I'm honored to not only call them my bosses and my friends."
