A U.S. Marine is in custody on suspicion of being involved in the death of a fellow Marine who was killed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina on Wednesday night, according to law enforcement authorities at the base.

The Marine was arrested at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday after the killing, which had taken place in a barracks room on the base earlier in the evening, reports The Washington Examiner.

The base has not provided details about the death of the Marine, but classified it as a homicide, with the Marine in custody being described as a suspect. The names of both Marines have not been released.

The death came two days before the base was to conduct its annual Exercise Urgent Response, the training that focuses on emergency security procedures.

Camp Lejeune, on the North Carolina coast, is located on beaches and has deep-water ports where Marines conduct training in amphibious assault and other exercises.

"This annual exercise is not connected in any way to the ongoing events in the Middle East," Camp Lejeune said in its statement announcing the training plans.
