Mark Morgan, who served as chief of the U.S. Border Patrol in the Obama administration, said he backs President Donald Trump’s effort to secure funding for a wall on the southern border.
Morgan, who was fired one day after President Donald Trump took office, made his remarks during a Tuesday interview with Law & Crime.
“I’m here today breaking my silence to tell the American people that the president is correct in what he’s doing,” Morgan said. “The wall works – 100 percent. And I’m here today to support his efforts and what he’s doing to get what he needs to improve border security for this great nation.”
He was asked if he was pushed by the White House to make his remarks.
“I’m doing this on my own for one reason,” he said. “I’m a patriot.”
Morgan noted he was asked to resign by the Trump administration just a day after Trump signed an executive order authorizing construction of the wall.
Upon his departure, Morgan told staffers that he was not resigning, but had been asked to leave by the administration.
