Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., scoffs at much of what President Donald Trump put forth in his campaign and currently from the White House, but we need to add the rebuke of self-proclaimed Ronald Reagan comparisons to the list.

"I think it's pretty clear that there's a difference between, 'Well, aren't we killers?' and the guy that stood there and said, 'Mr. Gorbachev, take down this wall,'" McCain told host David Axlerod on Saturday's "The Axe Files"

McCain pointed to President Trump's "appalling" comparison of the U.S. to Vladimir Putin's Russian leadership and alleged human rights abuses, having said, "We've got a lot of killers. What do you think, our country's so innocent?"

Former President Reagan held a much less pro-Soviet Union stance than Trump on Putin's Russia, McCain told Axlerod.

"[Reagan] spoke out for the captive nations; he spoke out for the people that were behind the Iron Curtain," McCain told the video podcast.

"And after the Iron Curtain fell, they were thousands who said 'I heard Ronald Reagan. I listened to the voice of America. I listened to radio free Europe. He gave us hope.

"That's a pretty big difference."
