Arizona Sen. John McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, said "the world is on fire," and that the prospect of an Iranian nuclear weapon is what would keep him up at night if he were president.
"The Iranian nuclear weapon is probably one of the biggest concerns," McCain said Sunday on
"The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.
The nuclear deal currently being negotiated with Iran will "nuclearize the Middle East – the most unstable part of the world," he told host John Catsimatidis.
McCain said he agrees with the
Wall Street Journal op-ed by former secretaries of state George P. Shultz and Henry Kissinger that said the negotiations were originally intended to ensure than Iran never got a nuclear weapon. "Now it's morphed into a delay," where the Western negotiators are trying only to stave off the length of time until Iran has weapons-grade uranium.
Iran's proxy wars throughout the region, including helping Iraq fight the Islamic State (ISIS) and its involvement in Yemen show they are "on the move at the same time we are about to conclude a flawed nuclear agreement."
