Melania Trump said there is “no reason for violence” in protests over George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.
The first lady made her comments in a Friday tweet.
She wrote: “Our country allows for peaceful protests, but there is no reason for violence. I’ve seen our citizens unify & take care of one another through COVID19 & we can’t stop now. My deepest condolences to the family of George Floyd. As a nation, let's focus on peace, prayers & healing.”
Three days of violent protests have erupted over the death of Floyd, a handcuffed black man who pleaded for air as a white police officer held him down by putting a knee on his neck.
Meanwhile, fired Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was arrested on Friday. It was Chauvin who was seen on video pressing his knee into Floyd’s neck.
