Donald Trump’s personal attorney Michael Cohen has privately trashed Rudy Giuliani, the president’s latest legal hire, over his handling the Stormy Daniels scandal, according to high-powered advertising executive and TV personality Donny Deutsch.
"I spoke with Michael Cohen yesterday, and his remark about Giuliani, was that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about," Deutsch said Friday on MSNBC’s "Morning Joe."
The ongoing uproar over Cohen’s $130,000 payment to blonde porn star Daniels to stay silent about her alleged affair with Trump in 2006 reached fever pitch this week as Giuliani proclaimed on Fox News that Cohen was repaid by the president, contradicting Trump’s claims he did not know of his lawyer’s payoff.
Giuliani’s revelation was an attempt to defend Cohen against charges his payment violated campaign finance laws – but it has sparked new questions about Trump’s truthfulness and the timing of the payoff, which shortly before the 2016 presidential election.
"[Cohen] said ‘look, there are two people that know exactly what happened. And that’s myself and the president. And you’ll be hearing my side of the story'" Deutsch said. “And he was obviously very frustrated at what had come out yesterday."
Cohen is currently under investigation by the FBI, whose agents last month raided his home and office and carted away his files.
Commenting on Trump’s hiring of Giuliani, his latest hire in a growing line of legal talent who have come and gone as special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation forges ahead, Deutsch said.
"The Giuliani thing is interesting. We forget how during the campaign, Giuliani was unhinged. I mean if you showed clips of him during the campaign, there was a reason he didn’t get hired for all the jobs that he wanted to."
