Huckabee: Gun Stores Should Disobey an Obama Executive Order

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee told Newsmax TV on Friday that gun dealers should ignore any new executive orders from President Barack Obama requiring new background checks on buyers.

"There should certainly be an absolute, unapologetic — just complete ignoring of such an order by those gun-shop owners, because the president can't make law," the former Arkansas governor told "The Steve Malzberg Show" in an interview. "He just can't.

"The more that we surrender the Constitution to a president who supposedly taught constitutional law … the more he keeps that going."

Obama is considering circumventing Congress and issuing an executive order requiring high-volume gun dealers to carry out the background checks, The Washington Post reported earlier this month.

Obama was weighing the order in the wake of the mass shootings that killed nine people and injured nine others on Oct. 1 at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore.

Huckabee told Malzberg that gun shop owners simply must "stand up and say: 'No, we're not going to do it. We're just simply not going to do that, because you don't have the authority to order that.'"
